The Big Cee KLR650 shark fin protects the rear brake rotor from damage due to rocks and ruts. It is CNC milled from 3/8" thick 6061-T6511 aluminum, bead blasted and clear anodized. It bolts to two existing M6 holes in the rear axle/caliper carrier, and has a bolt-on reinforcing block. This block is beveled to match the angle on the bottom of the axle carrier. If you ride through rocky terrain, this is the part for you!
The shark fin takes the abuse so the brake disc doesn't have to.
The Kawasaki part number for the brake carrier is the same for all model years; however, I came across a first-year bike that didn't have the tapped holes. If you have an '87 or '88, please check your bike before ordering. If your carrier does not have the two M6 threaded holes (as shown in the photo), you can drill and tap them yourself, using the fin holes as a guide. If you do not have an M6x1 tap handy, a 1/4-20 will also work. Full instructions are included.
This unit weighs just under 15 oz.
